Description: How does the body that can do anything at any moment dance? How do you decide how to start? Where does the movement come from and where does it go? Is it a decision we make or does it come from somewhere else, beyond our control? What role do the others in the room play or the room itself, the architecture, the light, the air, the sounds? Is there a personal dance at all, or are we all so fundamentally influenced by our surroundings and culture that our individuality becomes increasingly difficult to recognize? Or is the liberation of dance a way of liberating the individual?

The questions sound big. Maybe it is big, but maybe not. In this workshop we dance - we really dance! Frank Willens will accompany you on this journey and share with generous openness various tools, ideas and techniques that have always supported him in his life as a professional dancer, performer and choreographer. We will work with improvisation, elements of performative art, creative visualizations and physical dynamics.

The course is open to everyone, especially beginners or people with no dance experience. It is structured in such a way that everyone can find their own way to recognize and experience the dance within themselves.

Frank Willens has been performing on stage for 27 years. As a professional dancer, he has danced in Las Vegas and Los Angeles in the musical "Notre Dame de Paris" and on tour with Paul McCartney. From 2003 to 2023 he lived in Berlin where he worked with Meg Stuart, Tino Sehgal, Susanne Kennedy, Laurent Chétouane, Boris Charmatz and Peter Stamer, among others, and took part in numerous productions in Berlin's independent scene. He was a permanent ensemble member of the Volksbühne in Berlin and has been a member of the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch ensemble since 2023. At the same time, he develops his own choreographic works.
