AUSGEBUCHT: Japanische Teeverkostung und Vortrag

In the organizer's words:

Sayama-cha: Lecture and tea tasting with Kunie Kajishima from Saitama.

Sayama-cha is a green tea from the Sayama region in Saitama Prefecture, the neighboring prefecture of Tokyo. Compared to other Japanese teas, Sayama-cha has relatively thick leaves. This is because the region is the northernmost tea-producing area in Japan. In the cool climate, which sometimes leads to frost in winter, trees cannot survive without robust leaves. Due to its special leaves, Sayama-cha develops the full aroma and has the characteristic deep green color. In Japan, Sayama-cha is considered one of the best Japanese teas.

The lecture by Prof. Dr. Kunie Kajishima, director of the NPO Agricultural Support Team in Saitama, will first focus on tea culture and the history of tea in Japan. In the second part of the event, a guessing game first mentioned in writing in 1324 will be conducted in combination with tea tasting: The participants will be given five different teas to taste. Afterwards, they are presented with another five teas, but not in the same order. The participants are asked to guess or determine which tea from the first tasting is identical to which tea from the second tasting based on their memory of colors and tastes.

The event is a cooperation with the German-Japanese Society.
