"I think of you very often, for 25 hours a day," Heine writes to his "Lottchen",

who had been one of his closest confidants since childhood. October 14, 2024 marks the 125th anniversary of the death of Charlotte Embden, née Heine, who was described by her daughter as "a splendid piece of prima classa" and who is the focus of the matinee. Charlotte lived in Hamburg after her marriage, had five children with her husband Moritz Embden and received numerous well-known artists as hostess of a salon.

During her brother's illness, it is she who negotiates with his publisher Julius Campe on his behalf.

Over a French breakfast, you will receive samples of quotes and correspondence from Heinrich Heine and his sister. In this special edition of the series, original text passages are accompanied by settings of Heine's works by well-known composers.
