13th Chinese Film Festival Munich:
The Be-All & End-All portrays the Chinese translator Xu Yuanchong at the age of 96-98. The film shows his tireless determination to translate Shakespeare before his 100th birthday, as well as the challenge of coping independently with everyday life after the loss of his wife of many years. Director Zhu Yun accompanies him over three years with intimately coordinated camerawork and brings intergenerational conversations to life. The documentary captivates with its honesty, humor and cultural depth.
