The Chilkats
In the organizer's words:
The Chilkats at Joly's Live Music Bar
Each member of the Hamburg Swingin’ Blues Quartet contributes to the band’s sound. Frontman Hendrik’s jazzy blues guitar and Jol’s classic blues harp are accompanied by the top-notch rhythm section of Gianni Pace on double bass and Boris Borisov on drums.
Since 2015, the Jumpblues Quartet from the Waterkant has been performing on stages throughout Germany and neighboring countries, carrying on the tradition while always staying true to their own unique sound.
The Chilkats have been impressing their audiences for many years with their unmistakable jazzy swing blues and jump blues.
An authentic performance—both in sound and visuals—captures the special vibe of the ’50s and ’60s and puts a smile on everyone’s face. Musically, they skillfully blend
the influences of the Chicago, New York, and New Orleans styles, giving the songs written by frontman Hendrik Frommhold the perfect driving rhythm. You get the feeling
as if they were created right back in the era of jump blues.
His excellent guitar playing pays homage to the greats of this genre. At times you can hear the driving sound of T-Bone Walker, and at other times the style of
electric blues of a B.B. King or the Chicago rhythm of a Buddy Guy. The electrified sound of the blues harp is perfectly integrated into the songs and expertly brought to life on stage by blues harp player
and singer Jol, who expertly brings that old-school harp vibe to the stage. It brings to mind musicians like Little Walter, Big Walter Horton, and George Harmonica Smith.
The whole thing is backed by the fantastic rhythm section—Gianni Pace on double bass and Boris Borisov on drums—who round out the musical quartet.
The Chilkats’ music gets your feet moving and is just plain fun!
The musicians from the Hanseatic city have something to say through their music, and anyone who takes part in a “Chilkat Night Out” will experience it firsthand.
