Guests: The Deadnotes
THE GET UP KIDS are going on an anniversary tour: on May 27, the emo band, who released their groundbreaking album "Something to Write Home About" 25 years ago, will be making a guest appearance at Im Wizemann in Stuttgart.
It's been 25 years since THE GET UP KIDS from Kansas City released their groundbreaking album "Something to Write Home About". 25 years in which Matt Pryor, Jim Suptic and brothers Rob Pope and Ryan Pope have continued to develop artistically without ever losing sight of the band's own mix of power pop, alternative rock and punk from their successful album. The four started making music together back in their school days - with a slightly different line-up at the time - until the first EPs and singles were released in 1996. A few more years passed before the breakthrough album, during which THE GET UP KIDS toured diligently, recruited Ryan as their new drummer, released their debut album "Four Minute Mile" and also founded their own label Heroes and Villains.
This was followed in 1999 by "Something to Write Home About". A strongly indie-influenced emo meets punk rock record that is not afraid of pop influences or any genre attributions and was able to create a unique sound with this foolproof freedom. Slow acoustic numbers find their place on the longplayer just as much as driving electric guitars. Catchy, to the point and innovative seem to be the only self-imposed rules with which THE GET UP KIDS approach their music. Since then, many more albums have been released that organically continue the Get Up Kids' sound and honor the raw, youthful spirit of the initial record. Reason enough to celebrate the birthday of "Something to Write Home About" in style - with a new edition of their breakthrough album and an accompanying tour, which will also stop off in Stuttgart.
