Magical cohesion in a myth of violence.
1982: An unknown deadly disease is spreading in a mining town in Chile. Legend has it that it is transmitted by a single glance - at the moment when two men fall in love. In the same town, 11-year-old Lidia is raised by trans women in a large communal family. The group constantly navigates between a self-created, magical idyll and violent structures from outside. The result is gripping images in which time seems to stand still.
In his debut feature film "Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo", director Diego Céspedes explores the connections between myth and violence with impressive images and magical realism. The international co-production celebrated its premiere at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Un Certain Regard prize, which honors non-traditional filmmaking.
