The Neuroscience of Rhythm and Altered Consciousness | Bar lecture by BREWING MINDS
In the organizer's words:
Your Brain on Drums The Neuroscience of Rhythm and Altered Consciousness
Long before modern science, humans had already found a way to alter consciousness. Not with chemicals, just with rhythm.
Yoel Gordon is a PhD researcher in rhythm and consciousness at the Max Planck School of Cognition, working between Charité Berlin and UCL. He combines neuroscience with documentary fieldwork, traveling to drumming ceremonies around the world to understand why rhythm does this to the brain, and he's currently co-directing a documentary on it.
In this talk: → How a drumbeat alone can alter consciousness → What happens in the brain when it syncs to rhythm → Trance traditions worlds apart that ended up looking the same → What altered states reveal about attention and perception
🎟️ Doors 18:30 → Talk 19:00 → Q&A 🗣️ English
