"Deeply disturbing and scary." (The Guardian) Jack gets a job as caretaker of a remote hotel deep in the mountains of Colorado that needs to be looked after over the winter. Everything seems ideal: a change of scenery for the family, very little work and finally the chance to write a play undisturbed.
While the parents are busy, there is plenty for little Danny to discover in the large hotel with its seemingly endless corridors and rooms - including room no. 237, which he is not allowed to open under any circumstances. But children are children... Then there are Danny's eerie visions and all the mysterious incidents connected with a murder. And since too much loneliness doesn't suit everyone, the slow descent into madness begins. Slowly but surely, the place haunted by snowstorms turns into a horror trip.
The work, which has long since outgrown its original cinema success and is now considered a cult film, is based on Stephen King's 1977 novel of the same name. The version shown is 24 minutes longer than the European version, as it was screened in US cinemas.
