The Sisters Of Mercy

The Sisters of Mercy have been active for over 40 years, and even without releasing new music for more than 30 years, they have achieved legendary status. To this day, the band led by mastermind Andrew Eldritch sets the standard when it comes to their very own style of rock. Now they’re embarking on an extensive tour of Germany this fall.

A mix of punk, psychedelic, industrial, David Bowie, and a few spicy touches from other genres was needed to create a completely new sound in the early ’80s. Founded in 1980 in Leeds and named after a Leonard Cohen song, The Sisters of Mercy demonstrated with their distinctive style just how music could sound in the post-punk era of that time—and they did so with great success. The 1987 album *Floodland* marked the band’s major breakthrough with tracks like “Dominion,” “Lucretia My Reflection,” and, of course, the over-ten-minute opus “This Corrosion,” which continue to fill dance floors with their epic sound to this day. The follow-up album, “Vision Thing,” released in 1990, marked a stylistic evolution for the band and was characterized by a harder, more metal-influenced sound, while retaining the band’s signature drum machine sound and lyrical ambiguity.

In the ’90s, Eldritch shifted his focus from releasing studio recordings to live performances. Although The Sisters of Mercy haven’t released an album since then, their popularity and influence have only grown over time. Along with bands like Bauhaus, Joy Division, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, and The Cure, The Sisters of Mercy formed a solid foundation upon which generations of musicians could build.

Not only is the band legendary, but so are their live performances. Today, Eldritch and the drum machine Doktor Avalanche are the only remaining members from the band’s early days. But that doesn’t detract from The Sisters of Mercy’s sound. With its defining catalog, this musical project—across its various lineups—is a guarantee of spectacular concert experiences and evenings that never even come close to exuding nostalgia. This is thanks to the fantastic cover versions and, of course, the old yet eternally fresh songs of these legends. This fall, The Sisters of Mercy are coming to us on an extensive tour of Germany to once again radiate their fascinating aura.
