At the time of the first intifada in 1980, the inhabitants of Beit Sahour, a Palestinian town to the east of Bethlehem, decided to strengthen their independence and promote their self-sufficiency. As part of the boycott of Israeli taxation and goods, they formed a collective so that they would not be dependent on buying milk produced in Israel. They bought 18 cows from a sympathetic kibbutz and learned about the animals, their care and dairy farming themselves. The farm was a great success, with a great demand for the "Intifada milk". However, the small herd was declared a "threat to the national security of the State of Israel" and Israel sought to confiscate the cows. This effort forced the Palestinians to find new ways to hide their animals. The documentary, partly animated in black and white, combines these sequences, told from the cows' point of view, with interviews with contemporary witnesses, archive material and drawings.
