Following the great response, we are reviving "The Waste Land". Two years ago, "The Waste Land" was invited to two international festivals in China, and last year to the Glej Theater in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Before the ensemble takes the production on tour to India in July 2026, the production can now be seen again at the Meta Theater.
Dr. Martina Taubenberger introduces us to the meaning of this groundbreaking poem and reveals its relevance to today's world situation. It is shocking that even one hundred years after its first publication, "The Waste Land" could hardly be a more accurate description of the present than it is for our time.
"The Waste Land" by T. S. Eliot is considered by many writers to be one of the greatest contributions since William Shakespeare's sonnets. Just as relics of earlier times come to light under the pavement of an old city during excavations, so T. S. Eliot's text contains the fertility rites, the search for the Holy Grail, the voices of the poets of all times, Dante, Ovid, Shakespeare, Baudelaire, the seer Teiresias, the music of Richard Wagner (Tristan, Ring of the Nibelung), the fire sermon of Buddha and the talk in London pubs. Everything belongs together, scattered over a fragile whole.
Together with the actress Nicole Kleine and the multi-instrumentalist Ardhi Engl in Louis Panizza's stage design, images and soundscapes are created, staged by Axel Tangerding, which take the audience on a journey through the five chapters of "The Waste Land".
