The girl Dorothy is carried by a whirlwind from Kansas to the magical land of Oz. There she meets three companions - the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion. THE WIZARD OF OZ is a film about longing for a place that is better than the world you live in - only to realize that there's no place like home after all: "There's no place like home."
The musical propagates classic American values such as helping people to help themselves and became one of the most famous cult films in movie history - not just in the USA, but worldwide. Its popularity was due to its regular television broadcasts in the USA since 1956 alone. No other film has reached so many viewers.
THE WIZARD OF OZ made film history in particular through the use of the Technicolor process, which transported audiences accustomed to black-and-white productions into a fantasy world of color. Dramaturgically, the film follows a road movie structure, which is interrupted by musical sequences. The film inspired numerous filmmakers, including David Lynch.

The film will be shown on February 3 in the original version without subtitles and on February 7 at 3:30 pm (without introduction) in the German dubbed version.
