Thorsten Nagelschmidt liest aus "Arbeit"

In the organizer's words:

Berlin reads a book - and Thorsten Nagelschmidt will be reading from this very book: "Arbeit" (Work).

In it, the author tells the stories of people who work in the Berlin night: as cab drivers, drug dealers, bicycle couriers, emergency paramedics, late-night bar owners, police officers, hostel deputy managers, deposit collectors and bouncers. In interwoven episodes, Nagelschmidt describes the fates of those who are still awake and doing their jobs while students, tourists and ravers party.

This unusual novel allows its characters to speak about the importance of their work and shows who keeps the city running at night.
The event will be moderated by Marion Brasch.

Thorsten Nagelschmidt is a writer, musician and artist. He is the singer, lyricist and guitarist of the band Muff Potter. Under his stage name Nagel, he published the novels "Wo die wilden Maden graben" (2007) and "Was kostet die Welt" (2010) as well as the collection of photos & stories "Drive-By Shots" (2015). His novel "Der Abfall der Herzen" was published in 2018 and "Arbeit" in 2020.

The event will be moderated by Marion Brasch. She is a radio journalist and writer. She started as a music editor at the youth radio station DT64 in 1987 and is now a radio presenter at radioeins (rbb).

The "Berlin Reads a Book" campaign week will take place from May 26 to June 9, 2024, turning the entire city into a reading circle. This year, the festival has a special focus on the work "Arbeit" (Work) by Thorsten Nagelschmidt.

The event is organized by the dbv Berlin regional association together with the two rbb stations radioeins and radio3.

In cooperation with dbv Landesverband Berlin im Deutschen Bibliotheksverband.
