Till Martin (ts), Christian Elsässer (p, rhodes), Simon Popp (perc, dr)
In terms of content, the new Till Martin album is about man's interaction with creation. Formally, however, the Munich saxophonist and composer was concerned with how and whether certain pieces of music can be put together in ever new ways. His Three Piece Puzzle is an open game with textures, structures, forms, timbres and moods. In addition to saxophone, piano/Fender Rhodes (Christian Elsässer) and drums (Simon Popp), he expands the sound horizon of his trio through the use of singing bowls, woodblocks, gongs, bongos, liquid triangle and the West African calabash.
Till Martin designed his new compositions in such a way that they leave enough room for spontaneous inspiration. Unexpected and fascinating sound formations grow from small nuclei. He and his fellow musicians follow their distinct instinct and create intimate passages that conjure up multi-layered images.
