Time to Shine

Time to Shine - dance and theater spectacle - by Takao Baba and ensemble - from 12 - premiere on September 10, 2023 - Münsterstraße 446 - Junges Schauspiel - Funded in the Jupiter program of the German Federal Cultural Foundation - In cooperation with the Physical Theatre program of the Folkwang University of the Arts.

The big show starts with a warm-up session for the audience. Entertaining and acrobatic. But then the artists get nervous, because suddenly it is clear: One is missing. The surprise artist of the evening has still not arrived. The show must go on, the eleven dancers, actors and performers play, tell stories, dance dynamically and heart-warmingly to stall for time. Where is the star guest? More and more signs indicate that he will not come anymore. Will never come again.

"Time to Shine" asks about our finitude, but most of all about life: What would you do if you had to step down tomorrow? How can you shine? What does it mean to use and enjoy the time you are given?

The Düsseldorf choreographer and hip-hop dancer Takao Baba, known among other things for the street dance festival "Snipes Funkin' Stylez", directs for the first time at the Junges Schauspiel. Composer and video artist Riccardo Castagnola provides beats and images. The deaf London Aesthetics-of-Access-Artist Ben Glover supports the theater work to make it spectacularly accessible for hearing and hearing-impaired people alike.
