As soon as the first sounds are heard, the entire hall of the Elbphilharmonie comes alive. Musicians, dancers and singers fill the room - not just on the stage, but spread out in every corner, in the stands, between the audience members. Voices mingle with melodies, bodies move to the rhythm of the city. The Social Symphony is a living sound image of the city, in which music and movement merge into a rousing performance.
The Social Symphony marks the end of the TONALi festival, created by the Berlin ensemble DieOrdnungDerDinge, which received the TONALi Award "Courage for Utopia" in 2024. A multi-layered, performative concert program in which everything revolves around Hamburg's attitude to life.
The evening's soloists are the voices of people who live in Hamburg and talk about their everyday lives. A multitude of individual perspectives and a personal view of their own neighborhood allow the audience a microscopic view of the city's fabric and together form a lively and fascinating whole that is more than the mere sum of its individual elements. The ensemble includes the Hamburg Boys' Choir, 100 young people, musicians from the TONALi Academy and the audience.
In addition to this musical program, Senator for Culture Dr. Carsten Brosda will give a speech to mark the 15th anniversary of TONALi and the TONALi Award "Courage for Utopia" will be presented.
