TRACE is an exhibition about fleeting moments and faces, places and fragments. They tell stories that go beyond the immediately visible. At its core, it explores human presence and our relationship to places: how we exist in spaces, how we leave traces and how our surroundings preserve the imprints of our existence.

Through portraits, landscapes, and mixed media, this exhibition creates a dialog between people and the places they live in or sometimes escape from.

Four Washington, D.C./Maryland-based artists bring different perspectives to this exploration, united by common themes of memory, presence, and traces left behind, but their approaches vary dramatically: some are raw and direct, while others are layered, abstract, or deliberately restrained. This contradiction reflects how memory and meaning shift depending on perspective and time.

TRACE also explores the connections between different photographic processes - from traditional gelatin silver prints to experimental solar plates, from intimate cyanotypes to contemporary digital works. Each process has its own relationship to time and permanence, reflecting how differently we experience and remember things. Handmade books invite an up-close, personal experience, while larger prints take up space and attention.

The exhibition offers viewers space to come to rest and look again, to consider the emotional facets of everyday life and to recognize how people and places carry stories that often remain untold.

Meet the Artists: Make Noise, Leave Traces.

with Lely Constantinople, Martina Fornace, Claire Packer & Antonia Tricarico
Moderation: Rebecca Lilliecrona
*Conversation in English*

Four American artists rooted in the hardcore punk and underground art scene of Washington, D.C. will come together for an artist talk on the occasion of their first exhibition outside the USA.

The photographs of Lely Constantinople, Martina Fornace, Claire Packer and Antonia Tricarico are represented in numerous private collections and institutions such as the Smithsonian Institution, as well as in publications such as the Washington Post and "Girlgaze" (Rizzoli). The artists have collaborated with labels such as Tolotta Records, Dischord Records, Kill Rock Stars and numerous musicians.

The conversation will focus on the works, their original motivations for pursuing photography as an art form and the way it can capture atmosphere, emotions and moods that go beyond the immediately visible.

In addition, the conversation will address the challenges of living and working in Washington, D.C. - a city that is currently at the center of political discourse and has far-reaching implications for artists worldwide. It sheds light on the complexities of creating in a city that is both creative and fast-paced and heavily influenced by politics, especially against the backdrop of a prevailing right-wing agenda.

Courtyard party at Haus Schwarzenberg

Committed collectives, local and international actors and artists write their stories into the courtyard festival - together we create alliances for artistic presence and participation, a place of community in Haus Schwarzenberg. To this end, the courtyard festival focuses on diversity: strong networks are created through an exhibition, participatory workshops, solo cooking, a playing field for performances and, last but not least, the lively activity of the house community, which the live acts immerse in adventurous timbres of love, chaos and artistic freedom.
