Polar bears have become a symbol of the vulnerable Arctic - and of a trade that usually remains hidden. For six years, the film accompanies three unusual allies on their research around the globe. Their trail leads them into a system of legalized trophy hunting in which the skins and heads of killed animals are traded as collector's items. The deeper they dig, the more complex the picture becomes: Nature conservation, politics and economic interests are closely intertwined. The end result is a disturbing question: could the very people who are supposed to protect the animals be part of the problem?
