Expressionism in art and film
The exhibition sheds light on the conflicting nature of an era that was characterized by the social crises and upheavals of its time. In a joint presentation of art and film, the exhibition shows how deeply the early German film of the 1910s and the Weimar Republic was imbued with the Expressionist spirit - not only in terms of form, but also in terms of content. Film allowed expressionism to unfold in a completely new way on the big screen. Along central themes such as departure
and rupture, dream and trauma as well as form and deformation, the artistic issues are juxtaposed.
