TUNE. DJ Nigga Fox, Márcio Matos, NWAKKE. Performance

In June, three artists from different disciplines will be coming to Haus der Kunst for TUNE, coming together in the Westgalerie for a special performance: DJ Nigga Fox, Márcio Matos and NWAKKE.

DJ Nigga Fox and Márcio Matos are rooted in the Príncipe Discos community. Over the last ten years, the record label from Lisbon has become an important platform for the energetic music of the Portuguese capital, which has its roots in Lusophone African culture. It creates its own sound and poetics that deal with the beauty and injustice of the world.

Rogério Brandão Luís, better known as DJ Nigga Fox, is one of the main figures in this movement. With numerous singles, EPs and two albums, including the recently released Chá Preto from 2024, he has tapped into a unique sonic terrain. His tracks combine complex syncopation with a range of musical motifs, from the melancholic to the frenetic, and are wild entries in his psychedelic literature.

NWAKKE is the pseudonym of artist and musician Kendra Chiagoro-Noel. Influenced by her Afro-Caribbean heritage and interest in health and psychosomatic well-being, her work focuses on understanding and expressing the pre-verbal. NWAKKE combines dance and music to represent the connections of space, time, land and body.

DJ Nigga Fox will present a sound piece specially commissioned for TUNE on both evenings. NWAKKE will create a new performance to the sounds of DJ Nigga Fox. Márcio Matos will exhibit some of his gestural, iconic visual works that adorn every release on the Príncipe label, along with an installation throughout the weekend.

Additionally, an artist talk with DJ Nigga Fox, Márcio Matos and NWAKKE will take place on Saturday, moderated by curator Tabitha Thorlu-Bangura and curator Sarah Miles. Participation in the artist talk is free of charge, no prior registration is necessary.
