Slauson Malone 1 is the music and performance project of multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer and visual artist Jasper Marsalis from Los Angeles. SM1 explores the way popular music comes into contact with performance art. His new album "Excelsior" (Warp Records) follows the critically acclaimed "A Quiet Farewell, 2016-2018" (Crater Speak) and the 2020 album "Vergangenheitsbewältigung" (Crater Speak), which deals with the simultaneous inaccessibility and constant presence of the past.

The mixture of personal and universal themes entitled "Stone Breakers" is a central motif of Marsalis' performance on the first evening. With an ensemble, Marsalis borrows from the psychological technique of exposure therapy to blur or even dissolve the boundary between spectacle and spectator by interrupting pieces of music with unexpected speech and sounds. The ensemble Stone Breakers consists of local musicians in Munich, whom the artist will meet for the first time for this project.

On the second evening, Marsalis and his longtime musical collaborator and cellist Nicholas Weatherall will perform a mixture of the musical material from all three studio projects.
