The Ultramagnetic MC's are a hip-hop formation from the Bronx. Originally formed in 1984 by Kool Keith, the group currently consists of Keith, Ced Gee, TR Love and Moe Love. The group's work has been associated with unorthodox sampling multi-syllabic rhymes and bizarre lyrical imagery.
In 1985, they released their debut single "To Give You Love," and their 1986 single "Ego Trippin'" brought them well-deserved success. The record is notable for being the first to sample Melvin Bliss' drum break sample "Synthetic Substitution," which is now one of the most sampled songs of all time. Their debut album Critical Beatdown introduced many new sampling techniques, becoming an important part of the golden era of sampling. After disbanding in 1990, the group took a hiatus of several years.
They returned in 1992 on Mercury Records with the album Funk Your Head Up, followed byThe Four Horsemen the following year, which became their last album for fourteen years. Kool Keith went on to record many solo albums under pseudonyms such as Dr. Octagon and Dr. Dooom. The Ultramagnetic MC's finally reunited in 2007 and released the album "The Best Kept Secret".
