Unbehaust oder With no direction home

“Unbehaust” or “With No Direction Home” is an interdisciplinary theater/performance/dance/choir project set in the rooms, hallways, and spaces of the Welcome Hotel Marburg. The hotel has 150 rooms spread across 4 floors, 150 doors connected by long hallways. Behind those 150 doors are people who generally have one thing in common: they all have a safe home to return to whenever they want.

But now people are showing up at the hotel who don’t have that safe home. The homeless. People in a state of economic, emotional, and physical deprivation. No one knows how they ended up at the hotel, but they share their stories with us.
Who is the woman who has wandered into the hotel’s underground parking garage? And why can’t she remember anything? And what compels this dancer (too foreign for home, too foreign for here, never enough for either) to take the woman up to her room? Does anyone know this little girl sitting alone with her Legos in the middle of the hallway, watched only by the strange penguin? Or does anyone know who the guest is in the room at the end of the hallway, the one who said on the phone in the hotel lobby: “If a man who thinks he’s a woman is considered crazy, doesn’t the same apply to a man who thinks he’s a man?”
And then there are these young people with their basketballs, carrying the experience of flight within them, whose languages we sometimes don’t understand, but whom we keep encountering. Do the many tents in the hotel’s rustic pub belong to them? Or to the six people who carry their sleeping quarters on their backs and wander through the hallways singing their beautiful songs?

Spend an evening at the hotel. Stop by the front desk—they’ll be happy to help you. Trust the two men in light blue suits if they offer to show you around the hotel. “Unbehaust or With No Direction Home” is performed in the hallways, rooms, and spaces of the Welcome Hotel in Marburg while the hotel remains open for business, so that the everyday life of the hotel guests and the situations and scenes created by the production complement one another.
