"Shit, we're getting promoted!" read a banner at the 1. FC Union Berlin stadium at the Alte Försterei in 2019. Four years later, the traditional East German club qualified for the Champions League and achieved something that few would have thought possible. Despite all the euphoria over the triumph, however, the pressure to remain strong in sporting and economic terms also increases, as does the fear of falling into a conflict of identity between tradition and change.
