What is urban birding? Birdwatching in the middle of the city - that's urban birding. The idea: even in everyday urban life there is an amazing variety of birds that most people simply don't notice. birdingtours is a tour operator that offers guided tours for birdwatchers - from one-day city excursions to trips around the world.

The tour in Stuttgart The day tour is aimed at both beginners to birdwatching and long-time amateur ornithologists and takes you through four very different Stuttgart habitats in a single day: the wildlife park at Bärensee, the city center, the palace garden with its old plane trees and the vineyards near Untertürkheim.

What makes Stuttgart special? Stuttgart is known among birders beyond the borders of Germany for its small but fine population of free-flying yellow-headed amazons in the palace gardens - tropical parrots in the middle of Swabia! In addition, Alpine swifts and cirl buntings are Mediterranean species that have felt at home here for two decades and whose breeding pairs have increased continuously since then.

How does the day work? The meeting point is at 7:00 am at the Wildparkstraße parking lot. In the morning, we will walk through the forest to the Bärensee lake, then into the city to the alpine swifts at the music academy, on to the palace gardens to see amazons and little grebes, and in the afternoon to the vineyards in Untertürkheim. The tour ends with a panoramic view of the Neckar valley from the Grabkapelle chapel - if you wish, you can end the day in a nearby wine tavern. The walk is approx. 7.5 kilometers.

Practical information The day tour costs €49, with a surcharge of €15 per person for fewer than 5 participants. A professional, German-speaking tour guide is included - no previous knowledge is required. The following equipment is recommended for the tour: sturdy shoes and clothing suitable for the weather, binoculars and a spotting scope if available, a daypack with snacks or snacks and an identification book - we recommend "Der neue Kosmos Vogelführer" by Svensson et al. or "Was fliegt denn da?" by Barthel/Dougalis, both published by Kosmos.
