In the second volume of the book series Die Praxis, which we present this evening, Vaginal Davis gives insights into her practice of collective music-making in the art-punk bands of Los Angeles and Berlin.
Spätschicht - Live-Programm am Gropius Bau is a monthly, free series of events with an interdisciplinary program ranging from talks, book presentations and film screenings to concerts and DJ sets. In addition to the book launch, this evening you can enjoy a concert by Dylan Kerr and Cortisa Star, a DJ set by Bobby Beethoven and a screening of CHEAP.
Vaginal Davis moves across dangerous terrain as she blurs and transcends the boundaries of genre and gender. In her extensive 40+ year career, she has founded various art-punk bands from Afro Sisters to ¡Cholita!, Pedro, Muriel & Esther (PME) to black fag and Tenderloin. Writer and Delphi "huracle", Miss Davis turns her feisty, unruly attention to the collective practice of making music in the slippery underground scenes of Los Angeles and Berlin. Accompanied by music and friends, Vaginal Davis will talk about joint performances and rehearsals and divulge well-kept secrets and disagreements as part of the book launch.
During the event, photos and video recordings may be made in which you could be recognized. By attending, you consent to these recordings being used to communicate the event or exhibition.
