VAVUNETTHA affectionately calls her music “Seasoned Pop”—a sound full of contrasts: sweet and sharp, light and heavy, comforting and jarring all at once. Her songs move freely between pop, identity, and newcomer hype, creating a space that follows a logic all its own. Having grown up between the Tamil diaspora and everyday German life in Cologne, VAVUNETTHA explores her heritage as something fluid. Her music tells of transitions, of constant transformation. Girlhood emerges here as an ambivalent experience—marked by strength, overwhelm, and the desire to constantly redefine herself. Even her singles “Juwelen” (2023) and “Lakshmi” (2025) already reveal a distinct artistic signature: trap, boom bap, and melodic pop moments intertwine organically. Over this lies a deadpan timbre that oscillates between Autotune-induced alienation and soul-soaked directness. Emotions are less on display here than they are atmospherically condensed and filtered through various layers. The debut album “Haus” (2024) brings together indie pop, hip-hop, ska, and Tamil musical influences into a deliberately multifaceted universe. With the EP “Vaikaari” (2025), the body takes center stage: basslines propel the songs outward, as club energy meets intimacy. By this point at the latest, VAVUNETTHA had emerged far beyond the status of an insider tip. VAVUNETTHA’s music works just as well in the club as it does at home. It creates a form of escapism that doesn’t suppress reality, but rather alters its temperature.
