Vernissage der Ausstellung „IDA DEHMEL: 1870 – 1942 | Ihr Leben, ihre Zeit“

In the organizer's words:

We cordially invite you to the vernissage of our new exhibition on Ida Dehmel on January 18, 2026 at 3 pm. Our director Marianne Pitzen will welcome you and Guido Déus, Lord Mayor of the City of Bonn, will give the opening address. This will be followed by an introduction by Dr. Gabriele Uelsberg M.A., before Waltraud Pritz, Head of Fine Arts at GEDOK Bonn, opens the exhibition.

The exhibition will be accompanied by the performance ensemble Theatron ToKosmo, directed by Katharina Otte-Varogil, showing the homage to Ida Dehmel. The ensemble combines painting and film with danced body sculpture, violin and song. Afterwards, we invite you to enjoy a glass of sparkling wine and conversation.

Ida Dehmel was committed to women's rights and women's suffrage and founded the GEDOK in 1926 with the aim of promoting women artists of all disciplines - a cause that is still pursued today by the Frauenmuseum Bonn. As a Jew, Ida Dehmel had no opportunity to flee during National Socialism; she avoided imminent deportation by committing suicide.

To honor her life's work, artists from GEDOK Bonn, GEDOK A46 (Düsseldorf), GEDOK Karlsruhe and from cooperations with the Jewish Culture Days Düsseldorf are showing works of painting, sculpture, installation, drawing, graphics, photography, short film, action and frottage. The works relate to the life and work of Ida Dehmel and celebrate 100 years of GEDOK.

Let your friends know - we look forward to seeing you!
