Metamorphosis – Create Your Own Cocoon

Do you know how a caterpillar turns into a butterfly? It spins itself into a cocoon—not because it wants to hide, but because it’s changing. The cocoon is a protected space where something wonderful happens.
In this workshop, you’ll do something similar. You’ll design your own costume—your very own personal cocoon. It can protect you, empower you, and create space for transformation.
Before we can change, we sometimes have to face things that seem unfamiliar or a little scary: feelings we can’t quite put into words, thoughts that keep us occupied, or aspects of ourselves we’d rather hide. Artists have discovered that such experiences can be transformed—for example, into a costume, a painting, or a work of art. This makes them visible, and something unknown becomes something that belongs to you.
That’s why you’re making your own costumes: with strange bulges, unusual shapes, and crazy protrusions—just as peculiar and fascinating as butterfly cocoons. In the exhibition “Skin and Shell,” much revolves around the question: What lies on the outside, what lies on the inside—and what happens in between? Your costume will be your very own personal answer to that question.
