After a defeated battle, Don Pedro returns to Messina with his friendly officers Claudio and Benedict. The horrors of war seem quickly forgotten: Claudio falls head over heels in love with Hero, daughter of Governor Leonato. In the meantime, Benedict and Hero's cousin Beatrice engage in a razor-sharp battle of words. The two have long harbored a dislike for each other, but at the same time can't let go of each other - and in their passionate duels, they don't realize how every argument against love only makes their affection for each other grow. But beneath the feather-light surface between the masked ball and whispers of love, the war has left deep scars. For the officers not only bring victory with them, but also mistrust and emotional inaccessibility. And when the vengeful Don John spins an intrigue against his brother Don Pedro, there is suddenly more at stake than just love.
"Much Ado About Nothing" is perhaps Shakespeare's most charming and at the same time most abysmal comedy. With Beatrice and Benedict, one of the most beautiful lovers in world literature, he combines clever wit and witty dialog with profound questions: What is love actually? How do you break free from gender clichés? And what happens when we lose the ability to love? Director Milena Paulovics and the acting ensemble go in search of how noise can become love and love can become noise.
