VokalOrchester NRW feat. Lauren Newton

The VokalOrchester NRW explores the unexpected, the surprising. They create music in a regular collective: exciting, unusual and experimental. Improvisation is at the heart of their music, complemented by their own compositions and arrangements. In the past, the ensemble has performed with top artists such as Theo Bleckmann, Johannes Bär and Robert Ames. 2024/2025 will see collaborations with Rhiannon (USA) and Martin Fondse (NL).

Lauren Newton, born in Oregon, USA, studied classical singing at the University of Oregon and at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Stuttgart, where she has lived as a vocalist since 1974. She expanded her range of vocal expression and vocal techniques, focusing primarily on vocal expression, and gained wide recognition in both the jazz and avant-garde music scenes, straddling jazz, new music, performance and dance. In 2020, she received the Jazz Prize for her life's work from the state of Baden-Württemberg.
