90 YEARS OF COURAGE, CHANGE, AND A PASSION FOR MUSIC!

For 90 years, the Akkordeon-Konzertverein 1936 Darmstadt e.V. has been blazing new and ambitious trails. We have weathered the ups and downs of our history—driven by an unwavering passion for an instrument that is far more than its stereotypes. Just in time for our anniversary year—in which the accordion is officially being celebrated as the “Instrument of the Year 2026”—we present a modern, symphonic experience full of rich sound under the direction of Robert Girschick.

Under the theme “Of Witches, Heroes, and Heartbeats,” we bring the full spectrum of emotions to life: 

Witches & Myths: 

The mystical as the antithesis of the gods. In Puccini’s “La Tregenda,” vengeful spirits force the unfaithful lover to dance to his death at a wild witches’ sabbath.

Heroes & Heroines:

Experience our interpretation of Léo Delibes’ “Sylvia Ballet Suite”—a dance poem in four movements about power, devotion, and sensuality, in which a self-assured warrior fascinates as she balances strength, pride, and vulnerability.

Heartbeat & Passion: 

Enjoy pure musical passion in Rossini’s lively overture “La Cenerentola” and the touching violin solo from the film score “Theme from Ladies in Lavender.” As a modern, pulsating contrast, “Adam’s Loops” by Ian Watson captivates with hypnotic rhythms that, like a heartbeat, reflect the pulse of our times.

A special anniversary is best celebrated with friends! The first half of the concert will be performed by the 1st Orchestra of the Akkordeon-Vereinigung 1936 Pfungstadt e.V. (conducted by Jens Jourdan). The two associations, both of the same age, are bound by a long-standing friendship. They will enchant you with pieces such as “Orpheus in the Underworld” and excerpts from the musical “Wicked,” among others, before both orchestras merge into one grand, joint, and impressive ensemble for the concert finale.
