Vorbilder – Nachbilder: August Macke reloaded
In the organizer's words:
Ever since art has existed, it has drawn on earlier works. Artists copy, interpret, update, and critique, thereby connecting art history to the present and to their own identities.
In a two-day workshop, we’ll delve into the painting style of the Expressionist artist August Macke and his historical context to creatively explore the question: How do historical works of art continue to resonate in the present?
Our starting point is Macke’s painting “Girl with Blue Birds,” as well as its contemporary interpretation in public space on Hochstadenring by Marie Hesse and APHENOAH.
On the first day of the workshop, we’ll explore the visual and formal language of August Macke’s works and, through theoretical and practical exercises, experience his painting style firsthand. Building on this, on the second day of the workshop, we will create our own large-format painting on canvas that offers a contemporary interpretation of a work by August Macke of our own choosing.
The workshop is aimed at teenagers and young adults who wish to expand their knowledge of art and their artistic skills.
Participation is free. Space is limited.
