"The living to the dead" - The genesis of the memorial sheet for Karl Liebknecht by Käthe Kollwitz
In January 1919, the KPD politician Karl Liebknecht was murdered. Thousands of Berliners took part in his death and his funeral grew into a mass demonstration. Käthe Kollwitz drew him on his deathbed and dedicated her first woodcut to Liebknecht.
