Wachhaus #21: Frieda Hünsch
In the organizer's words:
The ceiling in the basement is as high as the roof is low
Opening: July 4, 2026, 4:00 p.m.
Frieda Hünsch presents the installation*The Basement Is as High as the Roof Is Deep* inthe guardhouseat the missile station. It consists of two mirrors mounted on the floor and beneath the ceiling, connected both structurally and visually by a ladder in between. An invisible space is suggested—one that eludes direct access. The ladder functions as a connecting element between visible reality and speculative depth. When viewing the work, observers encounter the installation as if it were a model: the space appears to extend infinitely upward. The boundaries are transformed into an imaginary, unreachable interstitial space. The guardhouse is empty.
Frieda Hünsch studied architecture in Münster and Kraków. Since 2024, she has been a student in the Architecture class at the Düsseldorf Art Academy under Prof. Inge Vinck and Prof. Thomas Kröger, and since 2026, she has been a guest student in the Stage Design class taught by Prof. Lena Newton.
TheWachhaus exhibition seriesis a collaboration with the Düsseldorf Art Academy, in which students create a new installation on site every two months. After a cycle of six presentations, one contribution is honored the following year at an awards ceremony.
