Steven Isserlis is (or rather sits) at the center of this watch-this-space evening in Carl Frühling's trio, which is well worth listening to. A light-hearted composition with lively contrasts and a little Viennese charm, as dance-like as it is peaceful. György Kurtág's Signs, Games and Messages is a series for various solo instruments and small chamber ensembles that does not form a coherent cycle. Instead, the pieces can be played individually or in different orders. And they try to say the most in terms of expression and content with as few notes as possible. The evening concludes with Vítězslav Novák's Piano Quintet - picturesquely folkloristic and captivatingly original.
