The winners of the 2024 WDR Jazz Prize have been announced: bassist Caris Hermes, born in Lippstadt in 1991, will be honored. Hermes impressed the jury consisting of partners of the WDR Jazz Prize Production 2024, the WDR 3 jazz editorial team and the WDR Big Band with her stylistic impartiality, rhythmic agility and enjoyment of playing together. The WDR Jazz Prize for Caris Hermes is endowed with 10,000 euros and is linked to a production with the WDR Big Band.
The WDR Jazz Prize for young musicians goes to the Jugend Jazz Orchester Bonn under the direction of Thomas Kimmerle and Thomas Heck. The Jugend Jazz Orchester Bonn ( will play its prize-winning concert on March 14 at the Pantheon in Bonn. WDR is thus once again focusing on the tireless work of young talent in the field of jazz.
The WDR Jazz Award ceremony will take place on March 14, 2024, at 7 p.m. in the Pantheon. The WDR Big Band will perform as part of the prizewinners' concert and presenter Götz Alsmann will host the evening. Afterwards, the WDR Big Band and WDR Jazz Prize winner Caris Hermes with singer Maika Küster will go on tour together in NRW, with concerts in Düren, Wuppertal and Duisburg.
