Weihnachten mit Harmonic Brass in der Basilika St. Emmeram

When the days are at their shortest and the tempting aroma of hot mulled wine wafts through the vestibule of St. Emmeram's Basilica, it's finally time again: we celebrate the third Advent with Harmonic Brass!
The five musicians, all masters of their craft, guarantee musical enjoyment at the highest level - and with a whole arsenal of brass instruments. From the cheeky piccolo trumpet to the deep rumbling tuba, everything that shines and sounds is included. At the same time, the four men and their lady are known for their extremely entertaining, amusing concerts, which go far beyond a pure listening experience. This is due not least to Andreas Binder, the quintet's horn player. He leads through the evening with a lot of charm, a good dose of humor and just the right amount of contemplation. He skillfully builds a bridge between the varied pieces and spices up the concert with the most beautiful stories about the festive season, which sometimes make you smile and sometimes make you think.
The program itself savors with relish what makes Christmas so irresistible musically. Bach and Handel meet in the baroque splendor of St. Emmeram's Basilica, Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker whirls past, a festive Gloria is a must anyway - and even the modern classics are ready and waiting. From jingle bells to the great melodies of famous Christmas films, everything that makes the heart beat faster in the run-up to Christmas is included.
And perhaps that's the best thing about this program: even the most familiar pieces come to us with a fresh sound. Because each piece has been so cleverly arranged by Hans Zellner, the quintet's chief arranger, that it sounds as if this music had always been written precisely for this instrumentation. The pieces take on new colors, new contours and often a lightness of their own.
