With Christmas tree & theater,
circus & time for each other,
presents and a meal together
For families, for singles, for people with and without migration biographies.
For everyone aged 5 and over.
Christmas is celebrated around the world. Also by many people who do not belong to the Christian faith - or no faith at all. The festival is interpreted in very different ways:
In Iceland there is a Christmas monster, in China Christmas apples, in Italy and Spain Christmas is celebrated on January 6 and in Eastern Europe the presents are brought neither by Santa Claus nor the Christ Child, but by Father Frost and his daughter Snowflake.
Santa Claus, as most of us imagine him, goes back to an advertising illustration by Coca Cola from 1931 - which in turn was based on European traditions. "Silent Night, Holy Night" is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is sung in almost every country around the globe and, according to sources, has been translated into over 300 languages - from Arabic and English to Maori and artificial languages such as Klingon.
At the Ringlokschuppen Ruhr on December 8, we will be bringing traditions and personal customs together, allowing them to coexist and interweave. We bake and sing (at the same time, but each person is welcome to sing in a different language), distribute presents to the children present and decorate a Christmas tree together with ornaments from all over the world. Secular traditions are just as important a part of the day as possibly Muslim, Buddhist, Jewish or "pagan" customs - even for other holidays that take place in December.
However you have celebrated Christmas so far, bring in your traditions and rituals. We want to come together with you to celebrate together! And so we share these moments and mix our stories, celebrate our diversity and the many ways we have to celebrate the end of year holidays.
The Ringlokschuppen Ruhr is looking forward to seeing you!
In addition to celebrating together, singing, handing out presents and decorating the Christmas tree, we are giving you a hands-on and stage program with circus performances, workshops and readings:
Our Christmas tree is to be decorated with very different decorations: Whether pears or baklava, fairy lights or incense sticks, pine cones or dragon fruit: Feel free to bring something with which you would like to decorate our "Around the World Christmas Tree", which for you is part of the celebration of love and togetherness.
