Program:

The program combines musical treasures from different eras and traditions: Russian masters such as Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov and Kastalsky bring the magic of the Orthodox liturgy to life with their deeply felt sacred songs. Benjamin Britten's "A Ceremony of Carols" for choir and harp is a jewel of 20th century English choral literature. Festive chorales by Johann Sebastian Bach and a magnificent "Jauchzet Gott alle Lande" by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy build a bridge to the great German tradition.

The program is complemented by a harp solo, contemporary compositions by Hedi Preissegger and Christian Dreo as well as familiar Christmas carols such as Maria durch ein Dornwald ging and Stille Nacht. The result is a varied musical introduction to the Advent and Christmas season.
