"Weil wir Frauen sind" - Afghanische Aktivistinnen erzählen von Mut und Widerstand
In the organizer's words:
An exhibition about and featuring courageous women’s rights activists from Afghanistan.
The exhibition showcases stories of resistance and solidarity, of departures and arrivals—and of an unwavering commitment to a just world.
For more than 20 years, Afghan women’s rights activists worked alongside the women’s rights organization medica mondiale e.V. to combat misogynistic structures and support women who had experienced sexual violence. They courageously raised their voices for women’s rights in Afghanistan.
When the Taliban seized power again in August 2021, the activists’ lives were in danger. From Germany, medica mondiale succeeded in assisting all 90 of its Afghan colleagues and their families with their evacuation; since then, they have been rebuilding their lives and continuing to advocate for women’s rights.
Now, 20 of them are sharing their stories about life as women’s rights activists in Afghanistan, their escape, and their exile in Germany.
The multimedia exhibition can be experienced in person and online through photos, videos, audio recordings, and interviews.
In cooperation with medica mondiale
