Welt an der Würm. Fremde Heimat

A documentary film by Friedrich Klütsch:

Small River, Big Questions. A journey of discovery to places and events along the Würm that are new even to longtime residents or have remained hidden until now. The film embarks on a cinematic quest, primarily in search of the unknown. This raises questions: What belongs here? What is foreign, what is native? If even the home along the Würm is not a protected, stable haven of the familiar, is it too caught up in the shifting currents of the world and constant change? And if so, what does that mean for its residents—loss, change, enrichment?

Extraordinary people who live or work along the Würm help answer these questions: for example, travel photographer Michael Martin, ornithologist Dr. Auguste Princess of Bavaria, Metropolitan Mark, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad, and the creators of the early-evening series “Dahoam is Dahoam,” whose studios are located in Dachau on the Würm—to name just a few. The final word goes to Karl Valentin, a native of the Würm region, who was already reflecting on the experience of being an outsider a hundred years ago.

Friedrich Klütsch, a filmmaker based in Obermenzing on the Würm and active worldwide, uses impressive nature footage to show the effects of globalization, world politics, and climate change on life along this small river, which is barely 40 kilometers long, and reflects: “Home is not a place, but a process”.
