Christian Schiebe's drawings represent a kind of limbo between appearance and disappearance. The inscribed sheets form open fields that mark a drawing space through fine, improvised rhythms, which are determined by deviating, searching, hesitantly groping and often corrected markings. Christian Schiebe mostly produces small-format and, at first glance, sparse drawings. For him, his individual sheets or groups of drawings are loose components for settings in space. In his work, Schiebe is concerned with bringing the drawings as loose components into a relationship with surfaces, fixtures, constructive, structural conditions, light and shadow in order to make the fine linear compositions and ephemeral qualities of his drawings tangible.
Stefan Lenke pursues complex ideas of color and structure in the media of painting and printmaking. He develops his multi-layered compositions in an almost palimpsest-like manner. Urban spaces and fragments of our everyday world become the source of Lenke's painterly imagery. Photographic notations in a minimalist manner serve him as studies of his perception and memory, which are immediately supported by the phenomenon of the fleeting and transitory. The artist experiments with graphic formulations, structures and constellations of light and shadow. In his works, Lenke abandons traditional notions of space, creating polyphonic discontinuities that, in the sense of Leibniz's concept of space, conceive of space as a "possibility of the coexistence" of variable multiple structures, perceptions, places and times.
