Werksschwimmbad - Badespaß auf der Kokerei Zollverein
In the organizer's words:
Unwind by a sparkling blue pool in the heart of the former coking plant: During the North Rhine-Westphalia summer break, visitors to Zollverein can once again cool off, sunbathe, and relax at the factory swimming pool free of charge.
The factory swimming pool was created in 2001 by Frankfurt-based artists Dirk Paschke and Daniel Milohnic as part of the art project “Contemporary Art and Criticism.” Since then, the blue pool—framed by impressive industrial architecture—has come to symbolize the structural transformation of the Ruhr region. Things can get pretty lively in the pool—made from two shipping containers—such as duringthe cannonball conteston August 29, 2026; on that day, everything in the city’s most beautiful pool will revolve around the perfect dive into the cool water.
Please note: The2.40-meter-deep pool is suitable only for swimmers; a lifeguard is on duty. Non-swimmers are unfortunately not permitted in the pool, even with flotation devices. Closed in case of bad weather.
Free admission.
