Vienna! - Piano Podium with Kurt Seibert and Christoph Rabbels

Kurt Seibert (piano) and Christoph Rabbels (viola) play works by famous Viennese composers.

The program gives an insight into the tremendous dynamics of the Viennese music scene from the end of the 18th century until well into the twenties of the 19th century.

While Ludwig van Beethoven's two Rondos (for piano op. 51) are still associated with the ideal of domestic music in aristocratic circles, Johann Nepomuk Hummel's Sonata (E flat major for viola and piano op. 5) already shows the way to greater independence and a previously almost non-existent real dialog between the instruments. Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 29 in B flat major Op. 106 ("Great Sonata for the Hammerklavier") may be regarded as the last work in the classical style, but at the same time Beethoven introduces new romantic worlds of expression. The sonata was long considered almost unplayable and is one of Beethoven's greatest and technically most difficult piano works.

This program is intended as a counterpoint to today's conventional ideas of the period, in which the term "Viennese" classical music has become a marketing term devoid of content.

Kurt Seibert will introduce this problem and perform together with his esteemed duo partner, the violist Christoph Rabbels.
