William Wahl is one of the most subtle voices in German-language cabaret. As a singer-songwriter, pianist and cabaret artist, he combines musical precision with linguistic elegance - and a gift for observation that is as sharp as it is affectionate. For many years, he was the creative mind and formative voice of the successful a cappella group basta, before turning consistently to his solo work and developing his very own form between chanson, chamber pop and piano cabaret at the piano.

In his current program "wahlweise", William Wahl shows how virtuously wordplay, poetry and humour can be intertwined. His songs are bittersweet, often ravishingly funny and then again surprisingly melancholy. With a keen sense for human weaknesses, everyday abysses and relationship catastrophes, he tells stories in which the audience laughingly recognizes itself. At the same time, he never loses his warm, attentive view of life - even when it becomes unpleasant.

William Wahl's texts hit the mark because they are precise. His punchlines are spot on, but they don't make a ruckus. Instead, a quiet humor unfolds that lingers for a long time. Whether it's about love, misunderstandings, self-doubt or the big and small decisions in life, Wahl manages to translate existential questions into catchy melodies and amazingly clear images. His songs are heard millions of times over, his programs are regularly sold out and have received numerous awards - most recently the German Cabaret Award.
