Lecture by Dr. Daniel Schürholz

On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT), ZMT scientists will report on their research and work in the field every 2nd Saturday of the month in 2026 in the series "Knowledge at 11".

Imagine having to fight your way through thick mud and a tangle of mangrove roots at over 30°C and 100% humidity, while thousands of mosquitoes buzz in your ears, only to have counted and identified various trees by the end of the day. Sounds exhausting? Why not leave it to AI, which can do the job in just a few minutes? This is exactly what Daniel Schürholz is researching, making not only the day-to-day work of researchers easier, but also the monitoring of mangrove forests, which are under threat in many places.
