Lecture by Dennis Hoffmann
3D scans are more than just technical images: They extend classic digitization formats and open up new ways of researching, preserving and communicating maritime cultural heritage. Based on various projects - from an interactive 3D quiz app and tactile models for people with visual impairments to deep-sea scans of sunken warships - the speaker will show in his lecture how versatile 3D media can be used in museum work. The focus will be on the selection of suitable scanning methods for different historical objects as well as their further processing for exhibitions, research and the public - for example as 3D prints, video animations or interactive applications. His workshop report provides an insight into current challenges and opportunities and also ventures a look into the future of 3D digitization in museums.
