Knowledge at 11: Destruction and Diaspora. Global consequences of Nazi persecution for music history - presentation of the long-term research project "Nazi persecution and music history"
Lecture by Prof. Dr. Friedrich Geiger
The persecution of musicians by the Nazi regime brought many artistic developments in Europe to a halt. Through exile, however, musical expertise also spread worldwide. In many countries of refuge, there were productive interactions with the local musical cultures. After 1945, artistic ideas also found their way back, in some cases greatly transformed by exile. As a result, the long-term consequences of Nazi rule for music, as will be shown in the lecture using selected examples, can best be recognized from a global historical perspective.
This lecture will take place as a face-to-face event.
